We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position to work on studying galaxy evolution and the observations of high-redshift galaxies.

The selected candidate will work with Dr. Leopoldo Infante on the spectroscopic follow-up of high-redshift galaxies using Magellan current and future (IFU) instrumentation.

Some of the ongoing projects correspond to The Lyman Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization (LAGER, https://www.lagersurvey.org/) and its successor, the CIDER survey, and the study of the connection between the interstellar medium and the environment in high-redshift galaxies using JWST NIRSpec Cycles 2 and 3 (programs IDs  3777, 4265 and 5974) observations. The programs are part of the ongoing ALMA CRISTAL large program (https://www.alma-cristal.info/) and the ARCTOMO (https://sites.google.com/view/arctomo/home) collaborations, respectively, and the candidate will be encouraged to participate of those collaborations actively.

Before starting the position, the successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or equivalent. Experience with multi-object and IFU spectroscopy will be considered an important asset.

The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The selected candidate will be based at the Las Campanas Observatory offices in La Serena, Chile. Other major international observatories, such as La Silla, CTIO, Gemini South, SOAR, and some of the world's most significant astronomical projects for the next decade, such as LSST and GMT, are located in the area. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to visit the Observatory and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago regularly.

The position comes with a competitive salary and generous support for travel, computing, and publications.

The application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, and an essay describing the applicant's previous research and current research (up to 3 pages, including references). These materials and the names of three references must be submitted via the link provided by May 31, 2024.
